DW Akademie’s Post

The publicist and political theorist Hannah Arendt was born in Hanover in 1906 to liberal Jewish parents. Due to the spread of National Socialism and growing antisemitism, she was forced to flee twice. In exile in America, she became one of the most famous – albeit controversial – intellectuals of her time. She died on 4 December 1975 in New York City. In the 50th year since the death of its namesake, the #HannahArendtInitiative continues to strengthen independent voices worldwide. The programmes offer protection, focus on networking and open up new perspectives. In the homeland or in exile.
