Dr. Thomas Zacharia, Senior Vice President, AMD, delivered an address on the expanding impact of supercomputing. Having spent 3 decades in HPC and Supercomputing arena, Dr. Zacharia still feels that HPC amazes with the capabilities and opportunities that it presents. He used time machine metaphor to illustrate how current capabilities of an HPC could fit in a small device as the future unfolds. He encouraged students and young professionals to be confident and ambitious, noting that their ideas and curiosity will shape the technological landscape of the future. Dr Zacharia also spoke about the dynamic, rapidly evolving world of AI, describing it as one of the most fascinating fields today. He expressed optimism that the next generation will continue to push boundaries and drive meaningful advancements in supercomputing. #SCI2025 #SupercomputingIndia #HPC #AI #QuantumComputing #NSM Department of Science & Technology, Government of India I Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology I CDACINDIA I Manipal Institute of Technology I IEEE Computer Society Bangalore Chapter I IEEE BANGALORE SECTION I Digital India Programme I India Semiconductor Mission I IndiaAI I VVDN Technologies

AMD has built a very successful pipeline of innovation and IP development. Here is an audio snapshot from AMD Financial Analyst Day 2025 where I walked through the “pyramid” view of our technology portfolio — from foundational compute building blocks to how we put it all together to build solutions to our customer's toughest and most diverse computing challenges.    This portfolio approach empowers AMD to efficiently deliver across markets: from edge AI and PCs to enterprises to supercomputers without sacrificing performance or efficiency, and all with a consistent AI enablement with our open source ROCm stack. 2025 was the year when artificial intelligence’s full potential roared into view, and when it became clear that there will be no turning back. Whatever the question was, AI was the answer. Person of the Year is a powerful way to focus the world’s attention on the people that shape our lives. And this year, no one had a greater impact than the individuals who imagined, designed, and built AI. Humanity will determine AI’s path forward, and each of us can play a role in determining AI’s structure and future. Our work has trained it and sustained it, and now we find ourselves moving through a world increasingly defined by it. For delivering the age of thinking machines, for wowing and worrying humanity, for transforming the present and transcending the possible, the Architects of AI are TIME’s 2025 Person of the Year. https://lnkd.in/etbjfawh Pictured: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta; Lisa Su, CEO of AMD; Elon Musk, xAI; Jensen Huang, President and CEO of Nvidia; Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind Technologies; Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic; Fei-Fei Li, Co-Director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute and CEO of World Labs Illustration by Peter Crowther for TIME; Painting by Jason Seiler for TIME

Inspiring progress from Essential AI with the launch of their first open model, rnj-1 (an homage to Ramanujan, pronounced “range-1”).    Built with scientific rigor, data discipline, and responsible scaling, rnj-1 competes with some of the strongest open-weight models of similar size available from OpenAI, Google, and Alibaba—a remarkable achievement for a first release.    We’re proud that AMD Instinct GPUs were part of the acceleration fleet that helped train rnj-1 on 8.7T tokens, contributing to its strong performance across STEM, math, and code benchmarks.    Congratulations to the Essential AI team on this milestone — we’re excited to see what you build next.    🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCjadNEb

Today, we’re excited to introduce rnj-1, Essential AI’s first open model; a world-class 8B base + instruct pair, built with scientific rigor, intentional design, and a belief that the advancement and equitable distribution of AI depend on building in the open. We are bringing American open-source at par with the best in the world 💪 This release is only the beginning. Essential AI is a growing team of 22, and is building a frontier research program grounded in clarity, rigor, and long-term conviction - with more models, research, and breakthroughs on the way. Benchmark numbers put us right up there with leading models of similar size. Notably, this was achieved primarily through principled data and optimization decisions - not architectural changes - and this is just the tip of the iceberg. 📌 rnj-1 excels at code, math, and STEM, outperforming other models in its class and size. On SWE-Bench it's an order of magnitude stronger than comparably sized models - It scores 20.8% on SWE-bench Verified in bash-only mode, which is higher than Gemini 2.0 flash rnj-1 shows what becomes possible when quality, not just quantity, drives model design. 📌 Before scaling up, we focused on discipline over brute force - careful data curation, principled optimization, and research-driven methods for code execution, infilling, STEM reasoning, and agentic tool use. 📌 We seamlessly trained on a fleet of accelerators comprising of TPUs and AMD GPUs. rnj-1 has seen almost 8.7T tokens of data. This brought with it a significant improvement in performance, which only seems to be going up. Blog post and more links in comment ⬇️
